Feedback
Week 12: For #1 the sky and clouds are too bright. Look more at the contrast of the composition, and see where the light is coming from. Adjust the portal effect, and refine the passage to the portal. The stone in the front is too dark/ monotonous. Add a bit of moss to it to blend with the rest. The lights on the stairs and stone fix that. The scale of the ruins is a bit wrong. Overall the ambiance is good.
For # 2 the cliff is a bit too much try adjusting its placement of it. add moss growing on the cliff and pillars. Find a water picture don't just draw it.
Week 14: The waterfall in the back looks a bit off, add rocks to make it look more organic. Add script writing on the portal that lights up like it's charging before the burst. Don't stop the camera, just slowly move it. Add more contrast and highlights.
Reflection
I used After Effects for the first time in a long time, and I'm glad I remembered how to do simple animations on it. I had no idea what or how I was going to animate this. I just started with the minor parts I knew I wanted animated, like the waterfall, then worked my way up to the clouds moving slightly. Because my concept was an ancient portal, I thought it would be interesting to animate it, lighting up and starting an explosion. It was a last-minute decision, but I was pleased with how it turned out. I was even fortunate to find background music that enhanced the experience of my VFX.
Overall this was a very demanding a tiring semester, but this module was my favorite to work on. I wish I had been able to animate the other two compositions. Nonetheless, given submissions and presentations for the other modules were all due at the same time as this assignment, which was a little overwhelming; I am grateful to be able to complete at least one composition.
