Project 2
Fig.1.4 Image reference Fig.1.5. Image Reference 2 In the second sketch, I defined my previous draft and worked more on the perspective. I worked with a one-point perspective to layout all the elements of my design. I made the table a bit larger. Fig.1.9 Progress I first started off with coloring the base colors of the large areas such as the walls, shelves, and floors. Fig.2.0 Progress Next, I worked on the small elements that required more details. I colored all the elements in then added their details. I added just a few plants to see if I wanted to add more later on. I drew all the paintings on the shelves and the one on the wall, trying to make it as close as the original ones. Then I also drew the little pictures I have on the bulletin board. Fig.2.1. Progress Then I drew my laptop screen, now the exact but similar, I worked on the little plants on my table and the shelves. I changed the colors of the pot to all the same red color. I added the drawing on the canvas and then added the other plant decorations. Fig.2.2. Final Design Rationale: In project two, my sense of space was my room, where I spent ninety percent of my time during the quarantine period. I took two areas of my room that I like the most; one is my desk area, and the other is a small nook in my room where my easel stand. In this design, I focused on harmony. The colors I used were determined by what emotions I wanted the area to represent. My room is a place of comfort and warmth for me, so I tried using a warm tone throughout my design. I wanted to emphasize the easel and the self-portraiture, so I put a yellow light shining on the right side and gave a hit of greyer light to the left side. I also kept the self-portraiture less detailed and used grey to contrast with the more detailed and colored elements. I add the self-portraiture to symbolize my belonging in the place. I did this because while my desk is what I use the most, drawing on my canvas gives me more comfort as art is my passion and something I enjoy. I added movement with the curtain. I added the plants in different proportions, establishing a visual hierarchy. I made the supporting elements smaller. I also applied repetition with the plants and kept the plant pots all red, with just slight differences in shading. |
[Feedback]
[Week 9]: Ms. Maria suggested I combine the two images to make the design a bit more interesting. She also advised that I have an area of emphasis and to add more details in the design, such as a drawing on the canvas.
[Reflection]
Experience: This was a unique experience for me as I often draw more people than the place. I did have some difficulties determining how to apply emphasis, so I looked at much other artwork. I observed how they used light to emphasize certain elements, and I tried applying that to my design. I tried adding many details, which took a lot of time, but I felt it was necessary to make the design look more complete. I feel the composition could have been better, but I was still pleased with the outcome.
Observation: I observed how other artists used perspective when creating artwork of rooms or buildings to make a more dynamic composition. When all the elements gravitate toward one point, the emphasis is also more evident.
Finding: The lasso tool or the selection tool can be used to color inside the line. This made my work so much more efficient. I knew about the tool, but I never tried using it for painting. These tools made a big difference in the time I spend coloring.
