Instructions
Project 1
For this project, we had to watch one of the videos from the youtube channel 'Pasta Granny' and make an infographic poster about it. I watched a couple of videos from the channel, and then I came across a video for Granny Irma, who made Stringozzi. She was lovely and funny, and her video was the most entertaining, so I picked her to do my infographic. The first thing I did was take notes and chunk the information. I rewatched it a couple of times. To really understand her personality and make sure the instructions were clear.

The next step was to determine a mood board and sketch a design for the infographic. During class, we did this to get approved by Ms. Anis, our mood board that consists of the art style we wanted to do and the color scheme.
Fig.1.2 Mood board
Then I came up with a sketch of the Infographic. I wanted to do a flow process with a lot of visual elements. I tried to chunk the information, such as the ingredients and tried using the instructions to help draw a process. Since the stringozzi was the main point of the infographic, I made it the largest, and the size of the ingredients was the smallest. This was to introduce a visual hierarchy in the design. Next, I also added an area to give a bit of information about Granny Irma and her portrait.
Fig.1.3 Sketch
Once the sketch was approved by Ms. Anis, I started working on the layout. I followed my sketch and started organizing where each element would go and typing out all the instructions into the right place.
Fig.1.4 Final Layout
Then I worked on drawing out all the ingredients; I used Illustrator and kept the art style simple.
Fig.1.5 Elements
I drew the Stingozzi in Photoshop and used watercolor brushes. As this was the infographic's main element, I added many details and made the colors more vibrant. I made this art style different from the ingredients so that this was more eye-catching, and right away, you know what the infographic is going to be about.

Then I added all the elements into their correct place and, using the brush tool, added highlights to the elements. I also drew out the stringozzi hanging from the past using Photoshop and added it to illustrator.
Fig.1.7 Progress 1
Next, I drew out the remaining visual elements, such as the round dough and the flour. I colored all the elements in, and as for the line connecting all the processes, I choose to color it a similar color to the Stringozzi. This was to give the effect of the line actually being a string of pasta. After rewatching the video, I noticed I missed a detail in the rolling out process. Irma said to add semolina flour while stretching out the dough, so I drew a visual of the semolina flour being poured.
Fig.1.8 Progress 2
I rewatched the again just to make sure I wasn't missing anything else, and I realized I had mixed up a few of the instructions and missed a major step, which was smacking the pasta to make it longer. So I rearranged the process and added the extra step, I had to move the sauce ingredient list lower and even the pan to fit the new step.
Fig.1.9 Progress 3
Once I was satisfied with the placement of each step, I started drawing Granny Irma. I once again used photoshop for this so that the stringozzi didn't stand out too much and that there was a unity with the art style.
Fig.2.0 Granny Irma portrait
I added the portrait of granny Irma into the infographic and decided on a background color. I choose brown to reflect the historical home that Irma was cooking in. This home was owned by Irma's friend Jennifer. I wanted to incorporate some green because of Irma's green apron, so I used different shades to color the pan, the pots, and the information box.
Fig.2.1 Progress 4
Finally, when I was happy with the colors and the layout, I realized a lot of space left, so I made the text a bit larger and changed the title's typeface. When I looked at the overall poster, I didn't feel it reflected much about Irma's personality. So again, I went back to the video and listed a few phrases she said in Italian. The most memorable one was "Doa mesi dece vengona a Galla," which means "they should float to the surface," and "Boun Appetito," which means "Enjoy your meal." I added these phrases to the poster in a more contrasting color, so it stands out.
Fig.2.2 Final Poster
After looking at the final poster I wasn't that happy with the outcome so. I tried watching the video again to see if there was any design or patterns I could add to my infographic. I found these fairy lights that were was used to decorate the kitchen granny Irma was cooking in so I decide to use that in the title to make it more interesting.
Fig.2.3 title reworked.
Lastly, I made the background colour a bit more red-brown as I felt the last color made it too dull. Plus this color tied in with the red tomatoes. I also changed all the green colors to a bit more vibrant.

Project 2
In project 2 we had to animate our infographic posters. I started with organizing all the layers. I put all the text and all the elements into their own layers so it was easier to work with when it's transferred into After Effects.
Fig.2.5 Progress 1
In after effects, I started with making the opacity for all the elements to zero then worked on animating step 1. I animated it so that all the elements appeared first then followed by the text. Then for the lines, I had to draw them using the pen tool then add on the trim path to animate it moving towards step 2. Lastly, I made sure to add easy ease to all of the steps.
Fig.2.6 Progress 2
For step 3 I had to animate the dough slamming into the board. For that, I used the skew tool to make it move up and down plus I added a 'drop' preset to give it the effect of slamming.
Fig.2.7 Progress 3
To animate the flour shaking I had to make a mask because the number 4 was in the same layers as the flour and I wanted the number to appear later. I did the shaking motion by using the rotation tool. When animating the loop of the pasta, I used the pen tool to draw then I created a null path and selected Trace path. This allowed me to see how the loop would look. Then I added the trim path to the layer and animated it by increasing the path to 100%.
Fig.2.8 Progress 4
I just continued the same animations by using a trim path for the lines and mask in animating some elements. Fo the title I wanted to add blinking lights so I just used the opacity tool. Lastly, I made sure the timing for each animation was right and I was done.

After getting the feedback I fixed everything that needed to be fixed.

Feedback
[Week 4]: Ms. Anis liked my idea for my mood board and suggested I do a more detailed sketch [Week 5]: Ms. Anis liked my layout and agreed that I knew what I was doing; she suggested I try to make the text a little bigger. [Week 6]: I asked my sister to look at my final animation and she told me that the looping noodles in the pan were too slow, plus the lights went too fast.
Reflection
Experience: This was quite a new experience; I never tried making an infographic, especially from a video. So project 1, which was the poster, took the most time; I wasn't sure what type of infographic to do and how I would reflect Granny's personality in my work. I tried to use the information I learned from all the flip classrooms and the exercises we had to make sure the infographic served its purpose, which was to inform. Project 2 was fairly simple as I already planned out how to animate each element when drawing it out. Overall a fun project.
Observations: Even though I added the text and the number, I think the lines make the infographic easier to follow. Ms. Anis told us to make sure that the infographic is easy to understand at first glance, so while sketching it out, I tried to do just that. I made sure the visual itself should be easy to follow, and the text was the supporting element.
Findings: Through this project, I learned how to use trim path, which can be a useful tool when making any process video. You can animate straight lines, going up, going down, or even loops. I found this tool quite useful and repeated it multiple times in my project. Thinking about the animation process was a bit intimidating, but Mr. Shamsul's tutorial on these tools made the animation process much smoother.
