Final Reflection
Experience: This module had both positives and negatives. We were all disappointed that we were unable to participate in the research trip due to covid limitations, but we tried to make the best of the situation. My team members made me very comfortable because they were always willing to meet and have discussions even though we lived in different countries. We never had any disputes and always supported one another. It was my first time to be conducting such extensive research before designing something. I learned a lot about the culture we choose and new cultures presented by the other groups.
Observations: From all the different guest lecturers and the designers we interviewed, we got a sense of the work gets put behind designing a product. It is essential, particularly when working with a subculture or any culture that we are not familiar with; it is important to learn as much as possible and set the groundwork before you start designing any product.
Findings: In this module, we learned how to incorporate the knowledge we gathered during our research into our final product. In the first project, we were solely focused on gathering as much information as possible about our subcultures. In project two, we attempted to find evidence for our research by conducting surveys. We also learned what products would work and what products would not for our target audience through this process. Then, with Mr. Asrizal's assistance, we learned how to put all of this data to good use. Knowing how to properly use research is extremely beneficial, and I believe it will be useful even once we begin working.
