Exercise

Week 1:

We discussed the MIB in our first lesson today, and Mr. Kanna thoroughly discussed the projects. He gave us several instances and places where we could get ideas and references for our game's world theme. He also explained how we may benefit from using the same theme for our Game Art and Environment Design modules. We were given homework to find three video games and conduct a study on them to develop a proposal for our character and world design.

Week 2:

1.0 Research and Proposal

Project 1

Week 3:

1.1 Character Profile

1.2 Male Character Silhouette 1-10

Week 4:

1.3 Male and Female Character silhouette

Week 7:

1.4 Character and Weapon descriptions

Week 8:

1.5 Character Silhouettes and Value Studies

Week 9:

1.6 Project 1 - Character Development

Feedback

Week 2: Resources are open to pick so it's not only limited to the game. The character's ability should be focused on so that you can relate it back to the game. Sketch more characters and you can go with the game uncharted.

Week 5: Silhouette #4 looks good. You may want to explore more about body shapes. How to play the character weapons, identity who and what it is. Think of their story and archetype.

Reflection

I was more confident in Game art than in the other two modules with Mr. Kanna because I had experience with character design from semester 3. Still, I anticipated that creating three characters would be difficult, and I was right. Each character had a distinct characteristic that needed to be constantly improved, which required a lot of time and effort. Initially, I was drawing character silhouettes that I thought would look good, but feedback from Mr. Kannan taught me that each aspect of the character should be functional and have a purpose. For instance, I was drawing weapons without considering how they would be used in the game. This took some time to get used to, but once I grasped the concept, my character was more refined. The research part we did before sketching was helpful as it helped us learn more about how these game characters are designed and how they fit with the environment and the game's story. Even though there was still a lot more refinement to do, I was happy with the characters I was able to produce in Project 1.
