Final Reflection
Experience: Advanced typography was a lot of fun to work on because we could be more creative, and there were fewer constraints. I particularly enjoyed Mr. Vinod's new feedback method since it allowed us to engage with our classmates, which was difficult due to the online classes, and we were able to see our work from a new perspective. I still have a lot to learn, but this module allowed me to track my progress, and I'm extremely pleased with how far I've progressed. Unlike the typography assignments, I was pleased with the majority of my projects this time, and I felt more confident in my work. I felt more comfortable sharing my work with my peers which, allowed me to learn more. I had a lot of fun in this module, and I am grateful for everything I learned.
Observations: One thing I learned in this subject that I didn't know before was about key arts. I had assumed that companies would brand their products based on the logo, and I had no idea what key artwork was. I learned to differentiate between a logo and a keyart from my exercise and look at seniors' work. These two are quite similar and can be easily confused, but a logo normally stays the same, whereas key art can be modified. Regardless of what I specialize in, this understanding is extremely beneficial to me as a designer.
Findings: In this module, I learned many new things, such as drawing inspiration and developing fonts from ordinary objects, as well as creating key art and event posters. However, my personal favorite was creating a typeface to meet a need or solve an issue. The issue didn't have to be anything major; it could be as simple as I did with tea branding. There's something very special about creating a font, giving it a name, and then being able to use it. Rather than searching for the appropriate typeface for a product, designing and customizing one elevates a design. Also, because we produced the typeface first, I built a design to complement it, making the design process much easier.
Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to Mr. Asrizal and Mr. Vinod for listening to the students' concerns and changing the feedback style. It improved our learning experience in the module greatly.
